This past week, I had the privilege of attending and speaking at AfroTech 2024 in Houston, an equally inspiring and empowering experience.
AfroTech isn’t just a conference; it’s a movement—a celebration of Black excellence at the intersection of technology, culture, and creativity. I left feeling deeply connected to a vibrant community of innovators, disruptors, and changemakers who are shaping the future in bold, impactful ways.
The Atmosphere: A Vibe Like No Other
Walking into the convention center, you could feel the energy buzzing. The hallways were filled with entrepreneurs pitching their ideas, tech leaders sharing insights, and creatives collaborating on everything from NFTs to AI-driven storytelling. AfroTech isn’t just a space to exchange business cards—it’s a space to build relationships. It’s where Black brilliance meets unapologetic authenticity, and every conversation carries the potential to spark the next big idea.
My Lightning Talk: Designing for Diverse Audiences
I was honored to take the stage at the Creative Summit to deliver a talk on a subject I’m passionate about: designing products for global, diverse audiences. Speaking to a room full of people eager to challenge norms and reimagine what’s possible was invigorating. I shared insights from my work at Google, emphasizing the importance of designing with empathy and foresight to create experiences that resonate across cultures and demographics.
The response was overwhelming. After my talk, I connected with attendees building groundbreaking products—from fintech platforms for underbanked communities to apps amplifying Black voices in media. Of course, AfroTech is about more than just business. Houston became a Black tech mecca for the week, with events ranging from mixers and panels to unforgettable parties. And yes, the fashion was on point. From bold Afrocentric designs to sleek, tailored looks, the style at AfroTech deserves its own runway.

As I reflect on AfroTech 2024, I’m filled with gratitude—for the opportunity to share my story, for the connections I made, and for the inspiration I gained. But the work doesn’t stop here.
