I am thrilled to share that I was recently featured in a Fast Company article titled “Black designers on the 6 things companies can do to promote diverse leadership”,
The article, written by Dori Tunstall, provides an insightful look into our personal perspectives on what it takes for Black leaders to not just survive but truly flourish in our industries.
Highlighting Our Voices
The Fast Company article delves into the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Black designers and technologists. It highlights the experiences and perspectives of leaders who attended the Black Design Leadership Retreat in Morocco, where we discussed and identified six conditions essential for Black leadership to thrive:
The Power/Influence to Change Things
Connection with Black Community
Appreciation for the Conditions of Black Cultures
Grace
Opportunities to Grow
More Time and Less Energy
My Contribution
As a participant in the retreat, I had the privilege of contributing to these vital conversations. One of the key points I emphasized was the importance of having the power and influence to enact change within our organizations. For Black leaders to flourish, we must be in positions where our voices are heard, our ideas are valued, and we can drive meaningful change.
Looking Ahead
Being featured in this article is more than just a personal accolade; it is a call to action for companies to create environments where Black leaders can thrive. It is a reminder that diversity is not just a box to check but a critical component of innovation and growth. I am committed to continuing this conversation and working towards a future where diverse leadership is not the exception but the norm.
Gratitude and Commitment
I am deeply grateful to Fast Company for highlighting these important issues and to Dori Tunstall for her insightful writing. This recognition fuels my commitment to fostering inclusive leadership and supporting the next generation of Black designers and technologists.
